Tuscany: White Truffles and Sassicaia

TruffleThis autumn we are celebrating the white truffle season with an exclusive package that includes a truffle hunt, a lunch at one of Tuscany’s finest wineries (rated 96 points by Robert Parker) and a dinner that will include historic vintages of priceless super Tuscans including Sassicaia and Ornellaia. The tour is available from October-December.

You will stay in the magnificent 11th century Villa Maddalena situated in the centre of Montisi, a medieval hilltop village near Montalcino and the package includes your own private chef and sommelier for the duration of your stay. Chef Selina Maldini and sommelier Matt Day work together to create an unforgettable experience using the very best local ingredients and wines – including your truffle if you are lucky enough to find one!

Day 1: Arrival and transfer from airport. Welcome drinks at 7pm (vintage Franciacorta) then a five course dinner paired to wines from the Veneto region including rare Romano Dal Forno Amarone.

Day 2: Today you will enjoy an extended lunch/wine tasting. The Daygustation Grand Tour of Italy takes in 10 regions with classic wines matched to a typical, regional dish.  A lighter dinner will be inspired by the islands of Sicily and Sardinia.

Day 3: The day will start with a truffle hunting adventure in the company of an expert and his dog. You will enjoy a rustic picnic in the woods. Later in the afternoon there will be a pasta making master class with a local chef. The day will end with a Piedmontese dinner that includes white truffles and Barolo.

Day 4: Between 11am and 3pm you will attend a vertical wine tasting (old vintages 1990-2010) and lunch at the Castello di Monsanto. Dinner is inspired by the North with wines from Aosta, Trentino and Alto Adige.

Day 5: The day is free for you to explore Siena or Pienza. A special ‘medieval’ dinner will be served in the private salon of La Romita with a range of old Super -Tuscan wines including Sassicaia and Ornellaia.

Day 6: Departure and transfer to the airport.

This five night package costs £3500 per person and is available for private groups of 6 to 12 guests. The price includes full-board, wines, accommodation, airport transfers and excursions (excludes flights). Please email  matt@daygustation.co.uk for full details.
